Children’s Shelter of CEBU
Cebu City, Phillipines
My wife Krista and I were fortunate enough to participate on the Children’s Shelter of Cebu (CSC) Dental Team in March of 2010. Orphans have a special place in our hearts because Krista was adopted as an infant. We were able to perform exams, cleanings and restorative work for 65 orphans. Along with the exams and cleanings, we did 92 amalgams, 57 composites, 36 extractions, and 2 stainless steel crowns. This was all done in 5 days of work.
Even though our focus was dentistry, I discovered that the dentistry was a minor role of my trip. I found that it is more important to show these kids pictures and tell their stories in order for more people to hear about them in the U.S. Most of the kids at CSC are a part of sibling groups and need to be adopted as a group. Some of these sibling groups are as large as 7 and 9 kids. These are great kids who need a home. CSC is a wonderful, modern and peaceful place where these kids can grow and learn, but it is no subsitiute for loving parents. I am still in awe with how God has blessed this organization over the years and am honored to have a small role in the CSC family. If you are interested in CSC at all, I urge you to visit their website at www.cscshelter.org.
Thank You,
Matt Struve
